Bike For a Cure for Pediatric Cancer

In response to the tragic terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001, the Chicago Fire Department organized a bicycle team.  Chicago firefighters and paramedics rode bicycles from Chicago to New York, to raise money for the families of those lost in the terrorist attacks that took place on 9-11.

It was an adventure, and those fortunate enough to be a part of it, will never forget the 12 days we spent together riding across the country.

Members of the original ride, and new teammates have decided to ride completely around Lake Michigan, this time, for pediatric cancer.  The Bike to Fight ride, which is scheduled for May 2010, will have 30 riders.  The ride is approximately 950 miles over a 12 day span.

The proceeds will benefit the Henry Schueler “41 & 9 Foundation”. The focus and goal of the 41 & 9 Foundation is to provide funding toward innovative, leading edge research in the field of pediatric high risk leukemia and the fungal infections children are at risk for contracting while their bodies’ immune systems are compromised during chemotherapy treatment.

The Ignite the Spirit and Henry Schueler 41 & 9 Board of Directors are comprised of all volunteers. Both are registered 501 (c) (3) not for profits without paid workers. Funds for the organization are derived primarily through individual and corporate contributions, as well as event proceeds. All donations are tax deductible.

Sponsorships, contributions, and entry fees will afford us the ability to raise our goal of over $100,000. These funds will allow for much needed research as well as a donation to two pediatric cancer hospitals in the Milwaukee and Chicago areas. The Bike to Fight  campaign is looking for caring companies and individuals for our t-shirt sponsorship.  The t-shirts will be proudly worn at the Bike to Fight by riders, volunteers and friends and will display the names of the sponsors on the back.  Each t-shirt sponsorship is $200.
